The Band
Bio
(Jan 2009)
Formed in 2004 after a one-off return of the critically acclaimed 'Legends of Rock' show, a Nelson Cricket Club fundraising event which brought together Martin, Garry & Joe (cricket teammates at the time) and Paul Woodhouse, a many times retired Nelson Cricket Club veteran of thirty something years old.
After deciding that it wasn't so bad after all, and that they should 'make a go of it', the original line-up played a handful of gigs to whoever was brave (or foolish) enough to book them at the time, under the name of 'Workshy'. Eventually rebranding to 'Shyster'*, Paul Woodhouse announced his impending permanent departure to America, and temporarily shifted instruments (like the talented fella he is) to rhythm guitar, making way for Mark Winton, his eventual successor.
The lineup remains unchanged to this day and they have played something in the region of 200+ gigs to date, their most successful year being 2008 where some 80-odd gigs were played!
Still going strong, and not succumbing to the pressures of increasing outside commitments, Shyster are available to play loud rock tunes in your pub, front room, garden, or hired function room (if you're posh!).
* Shyster - Many people ask us why we chose this name, the origins of which lie within Nelson Cricket Club terminology. It's used to describe an unscrupulous individual, a trait which we all share, including our manager, and especially Woody.
